Most would consider that Grosset Polish Hill is always produced from low yielding vines, so what happens when the Clare Valley’s lack of winter rain results in the ‘lowest yielding vintage for decades’. Something special.
There are subtle yet distinct floral aromatics of violets and lavender, lemon and lime blossom perfumes that persist. This is different from the restraint and shyness of most ‘Polish Hill’ Riesling on release – and worth celebrating because of it. The intense, lime juice flavours and fine linear structure is more dramatic, more overtly tight than most of these wines. It is powerful, multi-layered, richly concentrated and has an immediacy on release that is rare with ‘Polish Hill’. There are hints of schisty minerality on the long finish which is pristine, crisp and satisfying. While appealing now, this may well have greater cellaring potential than any other vintage of this Australian icon. – Peter Forrestal

Such is Jeffrey Grosset’s precise and refined approach that even a dry, low-yielding season has done nothing to thwart the ethereal fragrance, breathtaking purity, green-tinted energy, scintillating acidity, inimitable slate texture and impeccable phenolic delicacy of the phenomenal site. This is a vintage of fantastic concentration, heightened character and enticing jubilation. 96 points.

This is typical Polish: a style that will reward cellaring, but gives plenty of pleasure now. The aroma is very refined, restrained and intense, with an array of floral aromas, from fresh flowers to dried wildflowers and potpourri. Lemon pith, too. Intense yet restrained. 95 Points.
