The significantly later harvest has produced an extraordinary ‘Polish Hill’. Voluminous floral aromatics, with hints of talc and lavender, produce an exuberant youthfulness that gives vitality to a palate fleshed out by concentrated lime juice. The tight structure is there without the steeliness; controlled power, intensity and that characteristic ultra-dry character that thrills on the finish.

‘We planted the Polish Hill vineyard in 1996, following years of research into the influences of soil, rock and altitude on riesling. Being a hard rock site overlaid with silty, low fertility soils, the vines struggle and crops are low. While challenging to manage, the result is strikingly different.’ JG

When it comes to both quality and consistency, this is arguably Australia’s greatest white wine. As a lover of both rieslings and the Clare Valley, this would be my go-to white if I had just 50 bucks and change in my pocket and someone to impress. The 2017 vintage was superb one in the Clare; I’m seeing brilliant rieslings across the board and this estate-grown, certified organic wine from what has been declared one of the world’s great vineyards, once again leads the pack. I left my sample a few weeks and it is now very much in the zone, flamboyantly floral, vivaciously vibrant and palpably powerful. Think intense lime citrus notes, tight structure and ultra-dry acid finish. One of the great vintages and worthy of 98 points.
Just because its a picnic doesn’t mean it can’t be top shelf. Lauded riesling master Jeffrey Grosset loved the 2017 vintage, and this wine might just be the ultimate evidence of its brilliance. It’s compressed, coiled, waiting to pounce, its citrus spectrum including grapefruit as well as more familiar lemons and limes to add a heightened sense of flavour, zesty spice and intensity to its natural acidity. A wine that is so full of energy, excitement and potential, it’s quite possibly one of the greatest Grosset – and Australian rieslings – in recent memory.

This is a ravishing riesling of the highest order, X-factor multiplied. There’s every part (flesh, juice, skin, pith) of lime and lemon, with ethereal acidity; you can only marvel at the elegance and length of the palate. Jeffrey Grosset is the undisputed king of the Clare Valley. 98 Points

The just-released 2017 vintage is an extraordinary wine and, on my card, is amongst the great eight to 10 Australian rieslings ever made. Full-flavoured with lime and lemon citrus flavours, dense, complex and with classical quality and length… The most delicious upmarket riesling available today. 18.9 points.
