Grosset Pinot Noir 2015

Pinot_Noir_2015

Adelaide Hills – 200 dozen produced

Grosset makes only small quantities of this hand-crafted (and foot-plunged) pinot noir. It is bright and fresh with primal black cherry aromatics and some briary notes; intense mulberry and bramble flavours that are both spicy and savoury; silky smooth texture and a delicate spine before a finish of great length.

Approachable now but its balanced natural acidity will improve it in the short term and enable it to cellar well.

Ageing potential: Enjoy now or up to 7 years
Site: Single vineyard, Piccadilly Valley, Adelaide Hills; coolest grape growing sub-region in South Australia. South facing site
Fruit Flavours: Mulberry, black cherry, redcurrant
Profile: Lively, complex; fine, gentle lingering tannins
Fining: Nil – suitable for vegans and vegetarians

Halliday Wine Companion 2018
From 35yo estate vines part crushed, part whole bunches; open-fermented, 8 days on skins, matured on lees for 8 months in French oak (60% new). Clear crimson-purple; a savoury/spicy edge to red and purple fruits on the bouquet heralds a striking palate with a drive and fruit intensity that has some similarities to Ashton Hills. The ride along the palate through to the aftertaste grows inexorably yet harmoniously. 97 Points.

Tyson Stelzer’s Australian & New Zealand Wines of the Year 2017
An intricately crafted pinot noir of effortless finesse and confident poise, founded on an impeccable core of red cherry and strawberry fruit, layered with dried herbs, spice and beetroot and cradled in silky, fine tannins of gorgeous texture. It propagates with seamless persistence and feather-light grace. 95 Points.

Gourmet Traveller Wine, The Red Edition, June/July 2017
A thoroughly beautiful pinot. The bouquet offers dark cherry, while the palate is medium- to full-bodied and concentrated. Spot on ripeness and sweet fruit is balanced by ample tannins. A pure-fruit style of intensity and power. It will age. 5 Stars.

Huon Hooke, 10 March 2017
Medium to deep red colour with a strong purple rim. The bouquet is sweet and ripe, black cherry and dark red cherry, while the wine is much the same in the mouth; medium to full in body with ample tannins, sweet fruit and good density. The fruit concentration and ripeness are excellent. It seems like a destemmed style. All it needs is a little more time to be a great drink. 96 Points.
