Recent vintages of the Grosset Pinot have been consistently outstanding from the Adelaide Hills and 2010 fits the mould exactly as we might have hoped. Generally, you can expect a degree of restraint, finesse and delicacy that suggests the wine needs some time to be seen at its best, and yet has immediate appeal.

Only 500 dozen produced. The 2010 Grosset Pinot Noir shows some restraint on the nose, with gentle macerated red cherry and mulberry aromatics, brambley, black cherry and juicy redcurrant flavours, seductive silky texture, tight structure and a savoury finish that lingers. It is fine, focused and delicate with good weight and strong varietal character. While appealing drinking at present, it will open up more with short term cellaring when it will appear more ethereal, fleshier, more seductive and more complex.

It’s immaculately perfumed, with every detail of cherry blossom, rose petal, red cherry, mixed spice, dried flowers, anise and clove carrying from bouquet to long finish, lifted by tart morello cherry acidity and structured with fine, mineral, textural tannins. 96 points

An intriguing pinot noir which started off with simple cherry boiled-lolly aromas and built sappy, savoury, complex qualities the longer it breathed. Succulent mid-palate fruit with spicy and herbal flavours, before a nicely structured soft-tannin finish. Loads of charm. 93 points
