Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay 2002

Grosset Piccadilly ChardonnayGrosset Piccadilly Chardonnay 2002

The 2002 Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay is intensely fruity with honeydew melon and grapefruit aromas and hints of cedary oak. It shows ripe melony characters with minerally notes and restrained cedary oak in the background and finishes with refreshing, cleansing acidity. This is a pristine varietal that has rich, concentrated and powerful fruit flavours, is well-balanced, very tightly structured, fine, and extremely youthful. Moreish and tantalising now, it will build complexity given time in the bottle.

Grosset Piccadilly Adelaide Hills – Indulge yourself. The Grosset name is usually linked with great Clare Riesling but this Adelaide Hills chardonnay maintains the house reputation. It’s a complex mix of elegant melon and citrus fruit, nutty lees and oak influences with some youthful sulphury notes. The palate is rich and smooth, still slightly oaky, but nicely understated and long-finishing.
Ageing? Should integrate nicely in a year, then drink well for three years plus.
Food ideas: Salmon brochettes, char-grilled tuna.  starstarstarstarstar

Grosset Piccadilly Highly Recommended. This chardonnay has everything – it just needs time to bring all the components together. The fruit is restrained but intense, with a whiff of gooseberry. There’s a hint of matchstick complexity, and the acidity and classy oak are just right. Another couple of years will do the trick.

A flinty, Chablis-style chardonnay of immense style. Straw-green in colour, the aromas are a joy to behold, with floral, flinty, citrussy aromatics before a palate that’s both savoury and powerful, with a subtle spicy savoury creaminess supporting stunning fruit purity. There’s a memorable acid liveliness, a gentle tightness, and an extension of nectarine flavour stretching out through the finish. Top shelf.  94 points
