Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay 2001
The 2001 Grosset Piccadilly Chardonnay has some attractive cedary oak, melon and lemony citrus flavours with hints of tropical fruit and some minerally, savoury overtones. This is a vibrant, intense, young chardonnay that has a viscous texture, is rich, concentrated and powerful, already shows some complexity and has the tight structure and mouth-watering acidity to enable it to age at least in the medium term.

Jeffrey Grosset may be a Clare Valley riesling king but his Adelaide Hills chardonnay is first-rate, too. The latest edition has the subtle complexity of the best. There are delicious aromas of nectarine with nutty touches and a light veneer of savoury oak. The palate is subtly flavored and crisp with silky texture and a long dry finish. An understated style of great quality.

Pale, bright straw-green. Subdued but complex aromas of citrus and stone fruits balanced with nuances of smoky, fine-grained oak, creamy lees and bacon and butterscotch malolactic influences. Penetrating melon, pear and citrus fruits enliven the fine, succulent palate; finishes long, with fresh mineral acids. Tight, focused chardonnay, showing clever use of oak.
