Clare Valley – 300 dozen produced
Fascinated by the art of blending, Jeff has trialled shiraz-based wines for years. This release is shiraz with just a small amount of nero d’avola which adds a touch of perfume and freshness, matured in French oak (30% new barriques) 24 months.
The Grosset Nereus 2014 has complex brooding briary aromatics, and a supple fleshy palate that has generous brambly flavours with savoury overtones. It is medium-bodied yet has substantial weight and a gently firm tannin grip that is neatly balanced. It’s wonderfully drinkable now but can be cellared for the medium term.
Ageing potential: First vintage 2014 so as yet unknown.

Part of the quest to determine what variety will be the best junior partner for his shiraz – nero d’Avola emerged in front of malbec and mataro this vintage, and looks as if it will continue to be the best. Grosset is seeking perfume, structure and drinkability, which this has in spades. It’s simply bloody gorgeous. 97 Points.

Shiraz with a touch of nero d’avola from private growers, this 3,600 bottle cellar door release is another plaything of the ever-exploring mind of Jeffrey Grosset. It’s bright in colour and flavour, an unashamedly fruit-focused style of spicy black fruits and fine, mineral tannins. Classy and enticing. 94 Points.
