Grosset Gaia 2015

Clare Valley – 6,000 bottles produced

More so than most Australian single site wines, the Grosset Gaia 2015 reflects its origins on a rugged windswept hillsite at Clare’s highest altitude. The tiny hand-tended vineyard planted to two hecatares of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc 32 years ago produces reds with an amazing consistency of fruit flavours and style.

The Grosset Gaia 2015 has a gently aromatic brooding quality, ironstone, briar, wild bramble and dark plum flavours that are complex and intense with underlying power. This is a savoury red that intrigues before offering plush velvety texture, held in check by ultra-fine tannins that are gently assertive at present. The finish features schisty minerality, is extra dry and long lasting.

This has a very bold, ripe, rich and assertive feel to it. A powerful blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc that is strapped on for the long haul. The nose has a cedary red currants, cassis and red plums, leading to a long and suave frame of tannins. It delivers a sleeve of summer-berry flavours in a seamless form. Great wine.  95 Points

Tyson Stelzer, Australian Wine Business Magazine, July/August 2018
There is a Zen-like focus and a compact intensity to this Gaia that define the epitome of cabernet. The fragrant violets and rose petals of cabernet franc create an alluring fragrance that hovers over a dense core of blackcurrant and cassis, flowing into a lingering finish of great energy, high-altitude acidity, intricately polished tannins and grand longevity. 96 Points

Huon Hooke, The Real Review, 21st April 2018
Deep, bright, youthful red/purple colour with a lovely bouquet of violets and blackberry, blueberry and subtle spices. The wine is likewise elegant and refined on the tongue, full-bodied but finely-textured and extremely stylish. Long carry. This should age superbly. 95 Points. 5 Stars
