Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2003

Tasting Notes

2003 was a low yielding year for most Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc and Clare Valley semillon vineyards, but the seasonal conditions resulted in sauvignon blanc which has great intensity and naturally high acidity. The 2003 Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc tempers this with the more generous and weighty semillon. The vibrancy and crisp acidity of the wine can be deceptive at first, although its power and depth of flavour soon become apparent.

The 2003 Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc has wonderfully intense, even pungent, characters of gooseberry and lychee with some passionfruit notes, is juicy, vibrant and taut with refreshing racy acidity. As with many great wines, there are some paradoxes apparent when you taste the wine: it is ripe yet has a mouth-puckering tanginess; is powerfully fruity yet has some zesty minerality; dances on the tongue yet satisfies the palate with its concentration and depth of flavour. Only 750 cases were produced.

Winewise Vol 19 No 4 – Discoveries (October 2003)

The 2003 Grosset Semillon Sauvignon is part of an impressive range of wines released by Jeffrey Grosset recently. It's a wine of great finesse, showing grapefruit and lime aromatics. The palate is long and fine, with a clean, racy finish. Highly Recommended
